The farmers got together and were interested about the idea how to make others to share their cucumbers without a price. They said that they are doing all the work and there is a need for recognizing their work - it is not public domain. The main argument was that “When I grow something and I don’t want them to make profit on it. We need to have licencing what gives user right to share the goods the same way as I did and only in that way”. It is different from the copyright law as one helps the author and other helps more the next authors if they want to modify or share the work. Usually it is used in GNU GPL. As it similar to Creative Commons what is in Estonia more known to the teachers to share a like your stuff, then that is something even I have used to share my work.
Strong copyleft lets me share my cucumbers and seeds and nobody can sell them even when they develop their own thing. Some farmers like the idea because they were tired of thinking “what if”. When we use this then there will be no problems even when you develop red tomato-alike cucumber – it was free and it will be free. But others were a bit disappointed and asked what about their involvement and time, can we agree on something else also.
Weak copyleft lets me share my pictures of tomatoes in a repository, but I still ask money from the real thing. The resellers and other farmers are interested of using the repository and share also their pic-s because we all get more profit when we use the best advertisement. With this licencing they can develop something similar what is related to the tomato business what is still copyrighted (from the Italian Farmers) and share it as way they like it. Some farmers are developing their own tomato sauce and sharing it with people and the Italian Family cannot do anything to stop them. Others are selling their products as tomato farmers. And that has made the business flourish for everybody – people are developing their own pizza toppings or pasta sauces, others are opening their restaurants.
None copyleft lets me to share cucumbers freely with a trademark. When you change something then the changed goods it is a new product and you can do whatever you want with that. It is understandable when our farm shares pumpkins in the October. Everybody wants to cut out their own monster and it’s a new thing, not the same pumpkin I shared them. So if they decide to sell it and make a little profit then the market is an open market.
So now the farmers are having a different options what to do, different vegetable farmers are using different licencing: carrots are copyrighted and not free as they are profit organization, Italian Mafia has the tomato greenhouse but others are benefiting from the industry as well, cucumbers and its seeds are free and say free for everybody and pumpkin business depends of the pumpkin farmers to share goods in the autumn.
As what goes to the software world then people are more willing to share things in none copyleft because it gives clear understanding that all what is changed it is a new thing. It is as easy as strong option when you just give your rights away. If people have ideas how to make it all work from their selves – to sell additional software, regulations or trainings to use the programs, tools then it is good idea to share the basics and let others to develop it to make it better. I don’t see that profitable organizations will have much money coming in in new ages because the market has already changed to meet the individual needs of people not the mass needs. But to develop systems effectively what you can customize that takes time and resources. So what we will see in time that also profitable organizations will open up their source code and start sharing some programs and repositories for free under the copy left or other and make business more social or service a like not only to sell the program but sell the service.
